Safety Officer

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Ø       Must have STCW 95 Certification

Ø       Holds appropriate licenses and certificates as required by regulations.

Ø       Stand bridge watches to the requirements of the Master’s Standing Orders and    the Company’s Safety Management System, STCW and Collision Regulations.

Ø       Hold a GMDSS Certificate.

Ø       Applications: Windows XP, including Word, Excel

 

SOME POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Ø      The Safety Officer is directly responsible to the Master on matters relating to the safety of the vessel, passengers and crewmembers.

Ø      Ensure that all safety appliances and fittings are in good condition and maintained throughout the ship.

Ø      Arrange safety exercises and drills, and instruct the entire ship’s company on a regular basis to the management’s requirement.

Ø      Perform all basic and deck department familiarization training and arrange all passenger emergency demonstrations and exercises.

Ø      Assist the Master in all safety and other crew committee meetings.

Ø      Stand bridge watches to the requirements of the Master’s Standing Orders, the Safety Management System, the STCW and the Collision Regulations.

Ø      Participate in and comply with the vessel’s safety and security standards in compliance with ISM / SMS / ISPS procedures.

Ø       Responsible for their area’s safety, cleanliness, and operation.

Ø      Mandatory attendance at all assigned shipboard drills and emergency activities.

Ø      Create and implement ideas that will generate/increase revenue and/or reduce costs to the company.

Ø       Other related duties as assigned.

Ø       Fluent in English (written and verbal).
